Obituary of Dorothy "Granny" Marie (Kittle) Castillo
Dorothy Marie (Liedell) Kittle Castillo "granny" died peacefully at home in Roscommon (Higgins Lake) Michigan on February 26, 2022 at the age of 89. She is survived by her children, Deborah (Alfred) Gausden, Timothy (Drema) Kittle and Rosanne (Henry) Campbell; sister, Cynthia (Thomas) Stanton; brother, Thomas Rys; and sister-in-law Marilyn Rys; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy was born on August 24, 1932 and was raised in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of Otto Arnold Liedell and Marie (Miller) Liedell Rys, and stepfather, Michael V. Rys, who preceded her in death, as well as daughter Roxanne Gale Kittle, Husband Pedro Castillo; brother, Michael (Sonny) Rys; grandson, Mark Kittle; granddaughter, Stacy Kittle; and grandson, David Gausden.
She married Samuel Kittle on December 11, 1951 and they were married for 24 years and remained life long friends. She found love again and married Pedro Castillo. They were married for 18 months when his life tragically ended in a work accident.
Throughout her life she enjoyed dancing, music, family, walking, gardening, puzzles, bingo and watching the Redwings. She loved to laugh even at the silliest jokes. Her favorite color was blue, and her favorite flower was yellow tea roses. Her favorite sayings were “Shut up” and “Right Now.” She lived a long life surrounded by loving family and friends. She was never alone.
