Obituary of Gerald Raymond Fowler

Fowler, Gerald Raymond “Jerry” Bay City, MI Jerry passed away Monday, March 28, 2022 at the age of 83. He was born June 27, 1938 to the late Paul Eugene and Hazel Olive (Sanders) Fowler. After graduating from trade school, he joined the Navy. Although he couldn’t swim a stroke, he loved a challenge. He enjoyed reading, hunting, jig saw puzzles and his large collected family. He retired after 32 years of over-the-road trucking for Coastal Tank Lines, Chemical Leaman, and Quality Carriers with awards for millions of safely driven miles. He was an avid gardener with a green thumb, possibly due to his birth under an apple tree, which interrupted his mother’s gardening on that day. Jerry spent much of his retirement adventuring with his loving wife and traveling companion. He could be found roaming the hallways of castles in Scotland, Eastern Europe and Japan, zip lining among the tree tops in Costa Rica, para sailing over the Caribbean, walking on the glaciers of Alaska, or burning marshmallows in the back yard with his grandchildren. He had a full life and will be sadly missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Willa Waldron Shaffer Fowler; and the following children, grandchildren, siblings, in laws, nieces & nephews, as well as many other loved ones: Kelly Fowler, Jamie Shaffer, Robert Wham, Michael Fowler, David Mittleman, Shayna Shaffer Gruenewald & Peter Gruenewald, Kala Shaffer Chartier Fowler, Mathew Chartier, Chaz Fowler, Phoenix Chartier, Dustin & Jazmine Shaffer, Jesse Wham, Brendan Gruenewald, Catherine Gruenewald, Nita Kay Fowler Wirtz Eckley, Owen Fowler, Genevieve Fowler Sims, Alana Fowler Dubow, John Dubow, Erin Waldron Newman & DJ Newman, Charles P Sims, Gerald Wirtz, John Wirtz, Fredrick Wirtz, Michael & Marcie Waldron, Mark Waldron, Tom H Schmidt, Thor Schmidt & Jenny Childs, Alexander & Trina Schmidt, Lynn Waldron Horowitz & Jeff Horowitz, Wayne & Velma Waldron, and Brian Waldron. He was predeceased by his son, Daniel Fowler; niece, Kimberly Sims Schultz; nephew, Ara Schmidt; son-in-law, Jerry Johnston; sisters-in-law, Diana Waldron Schmidt Wiedling, Cynthia Casey Waldron, and Donna Fowler; brothers-in-law, Fred Wiedling, Charles Sims Sr., William A.
