Dr. Bobby Joe Jones, age 85, passed away April 16, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 18, 1936 in Yates Center, Kansas. As a young child he moved to rural Sterling, Michigan. He attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse with one other boy in his class. He was quoted as saying, “By the time I was in 6th grade I knew it all because I had heard it 6 times before.” Bobby worked his way through college earning an Associate of Arts from Ferris State, his D.D.S. from the University of Michigan Dental School, and his MS from the University of Detroit Mercy in Orthodontics. Bobby loved to give back and served as student council president his Junior and Senior year at Sterling High School, as Captain in the Army Medical Service Corps, past President and Charter Member of the Standish Lions Club, Member of the Board of Directors for the Auxiliary Coast Guard, President and Paul Harris Fellow at the Davison Rotary Club, Member of the Board of Directors Davison Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Davison United Way, Treasurer of Local Chapter of Safari Club International, and member of Pheasants Forever. A lifelong fan of baseball (especially the Detroit Tigers), he was honored in 2006 by being inducted as a member of the Northeastern Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame. He was also the Founder, President and Member of the Faron Young Fan Club. His favorite hobbies included gardening, fishing, camping, woodworking and hunting. As a celebrated hunter he traveled all over North America, filling his living room with an assorted selection of the most sought after big and small game.
Bobby bravely battled Inclusion Body Myositis for over 20 years. He was lovingly and meticulously cared for by his wife Donna. As he lost mobility and independence, he handled it with grace and humor, and never let on to anyone how difficult it was for him. As his mobility diminished, he constantly shifted his hobbies and focus to what he could do. He never dwelled on what he had lost. Through woodworking and beadworking, he loved to make gifts for his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his warm and accepting nature and he considered everyone to be his friend. He instilled a sense of independence and pride in all of his children that will be carried on in their lives and work.
Bobby is survived by his wife Donna; children, Kimberly (Daniel), Kevin (Amy), Kendall (Jennifer), Kirstin (Bill), Elizabeth (Randy), Jennifer (Jarid), and Amanda (Andy); grandchildren, Julian, Sylvia, Ian, Aspen, Colin, Liam, Quinlan, Reed, Felicity, Madyson, and Alyssa; and close friends, Joe Krivy, Robert Stuart, and George Baker.
