Obituary of Garry Alan Shellabarger
Garry Alan Shellabarger, age 64, of Palms, Michigan passed away April 19, 2022 at home with his daughter by his side, after his second battle with cancer. He maintained a positive outlook and attitude until the end. Garry was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 1, 1957 to Gary and Anna Shellabarger. He was a floor covering installer by trade, but also attended electronics school and the Recording Institute of Detroit. He had many talents and interests, and was a life-long music lover who played with various bands throughout the years. Garry was quick-witted and always ready to interject his good-hearted humor, puns and creative lyrics into a conversation. He was a great listener and friend to those who were privileged to know him.
In his free time, he enjoyed playing multiple instruments, song writing, and recording music…often with friends. He enjoyed the great outdoors, including camping, hiking and swimming in his “ocean,” Lake Huron. He was also a talented craftsman, tackling projects and home renovations himself. He was the best Dad and Grandpa who will be remembered for being fun and active and a great teacher, always treasuring his time with the grandkids. He is already greatly missed by his family, his friends, and his dog Acer.
Garry is survived by his dear mother Anna Shellabarger; he is the former husband and cherished friend of Susan Shellabarger; Loving father to Melody (Steve) Vogler and Zachary Shellabarger and bonus father to Samantha (Bryan) Thomas and Alex Rowe; Proud grandfather of Savanah, Theresa, Timothy and Matthew Vogler and Aubrey and Max Thomas. He was preceded in death by his sister Patti, brother William (Bill), and father Gary Shellabarger. In keeping with his expressed wishes, no services are planned. We wish to thank the awesome team at McLaren Hospice for their services and care.
