Obituary of Donald James Cunningham

Donald James Cunningham Sr. “Don”, age 94 of Sterling Michigan, passed away April 26, 2022 at his home in Maple Ridge Michigan surrounded by his loving wife and their family. He was born December 24, 1927 to the late Seymore H. and Alice Cunningham. On March 3, 1952, Don married the love of his life, Blanche Daniels. Together they raised eleven children, with many others claiming both of them as parents through the years. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters; and four children, Peggy, Dawn, Don and Dave. Don has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Don and Blanche always welcomed others, having a path through the grass leading to their front door. Don was a hardworking man, and it was often said that he worked alone like 2 men working together. Don’s yard work was his labor of love, although he worked many jobs through the years. He started out working in the city, but soon realized his heart was in the country. In his younger years, Don traveled all over the state to different stock yards buying and selling livestock, all while raising cattle and hogs. In addition, Don worked doing road construction down south for years, then for Buick, DeShano Homes, and Knights Mill building pallets. He retired due to illness at the age of 79. Don loved hunting, fishing, gardening, trapping, camping, and in his later years, going to the casino, and sitting on the deck in the sun with his wife Blanche and his favorite pup Annie. Don was an incredible loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and of course friend. His wisdom will live on through his legacy, of loving faithfully, working hard, and trusting in those you love. He will live in our hearts and memories forever, gone but never forgotten. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM, June 4, 2022, at Clayton Township Hall, 1057 Dobler Road, Sterling MI 48659.
