Obituary of Carole Jean Engel

Carole, age 80, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022, due to a lengthy illness of dementia. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan on April 26, 1942, to the late Thomas and Gloria Miller. Carole married Wayne Engel, her Junior High School sweetheart, on April 28, 1962. Carole worked at Shields Junior High School for many years. After “graduating” from Jr. High, Carole went to work for Mid-Valley Insurance and then later for Maple Ridge Financial, until her retirement. Carole was an advocate for women’s sports, coaching girls softball for 30+ years and playing recreational volleyball. She was an active member of the Shields Lady Lions Club until it disbanded. Carole enjoyed her weekly bridge games and doing puzzles. She loved to garden especially tending to her rose garden. She enjoyed her many trips to pick blueberries, strawberries and lunches with Florence Bowden. We want to thank Florence for all her help through the years. She leaves behind her 3 daughters, Tracy (Will) Kramer, Lynn (Ken) Manchester, Kelly (David) Revard, 5 grandchildren, Merritt and Piper Kramer, Alex, Trent and Abby Boylan; two brothers, Dan (Janet) Miller and Gary Miller, and brother-in-law, Duke McSweyn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, in 2020, and sister-in-law Leota McSweyn. To honor her wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will have a private ceremony at a later date. For those wishing to express sympathy are asked to consider Memorial Contributions to The Alzheimer's Association or Riverside Healthcare Center, in St. Louis, MI.
