Obituary of Donald Leroy Dickerson

 Donald L. Dickerson, 89, a proud Korean War Air Force Veteran passed away peacefully at Brittany Manor nursing home on the 4th of July 2022. He was born October 26, 1932 to the late SM “Sam” and Reba (Root) Dickerson, in Lake City, Michigan, where he lived until the family relocated to Midland Michigan. From there, he joined the Air Force, serving until he suffered a terrible accident and returned home, to marry Sally A. Bell on June 25, 1954. Together they raised 5 children.

Don retired early from Dow Chemical where he was a general foreman, to become an owner/operator of Bailey Donuts with his wife Sally. After 6 years they moved on to manage different resorts and apartment complexes together. When he wasn't busy working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, watching the Tigers, and the occasional trip to the Casino. After Sally's death in 1998, he met and married Lucille Toth who also predeceased him. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Glen Dickerson of Auburn MI; and his sister, Bernita “Bernie” Curtis of Midland Michigan.

He is survived by his 5 children, Michael Dickerson of Waco TX, Cheryl and Mark Hitchingham of Ludington, MI, Mary Gordon of Midland MI, David Dickerson of Grand Rapids MI, and Tommy and Karla Dickerson of Midland MI; his step-son, Paul (Joe) and Rhoda Tothof Coleman Michigan; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.     

A Celebration of Life will be held in September, followed by his interment at Calvary Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next Sally.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to a Veteran’s charity of the donor’s choice or to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church of Sanford Michigan.  To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com
