Born on the 4th of July, Norma Jean age 91, passed away recently. She was a Bay City area resident for the majority of her life, where she raised her family of five children.  She was a member of the Kawkawlin Community Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

She was very active at the Riverside Senior Center in Bay City and loved to play cards, dominoes, puzzles, and other games with all her friends.  Her yard was a joy to her and she spent a considerable amount of time working outdoors.  She enjoyed golfing in both Michigan and Alabama with her husband and their friends.  She and her late husband spent winters in Alabama, retiring there after he passed away, and continued to live there for another 16 years until returning to Bay City.  

She is survived by her 5 children, Marsha Yambura (Lee), Judy Thomas (Dan), Nancy Marcet, Will Butterfield, and Sam Butterfield (Deb); 10 grandchildren, Nick Yambura (Rachel), Brandon Yambura, Vanessa Thomas, Kristina Napier (Justin), Teresa Thomas, James Marcet (Cheryl),  Doug Butterfield (Terese), Steven Butterfield, Christina Howard (Mark), and Rebecca Richardson; 10 great-grandchildren, Jackson Napier, Addison Reed, Taegen Howard, Larkin Howard, Hailey Howard, Kinsley Howard, Kayden Snyder, Carter Snyder, Paxton Snyder, Collin Feldmann; 4 step-children, Dan Philips (Viola) (Eric & Tyler), Chuck Philips, Carol Harris (Mike), and Mary Letters (Mike) (Ellen & Rachel); and a niece and nephews and their families (children of her sister, Wilma), Lynn Murray (Karen), Dennis Murray (Brenda), and Jean Fournier (Randy).   She was predeceased by her husband, Chuck Philips; son, Steven Butterfield; grandson, Alan Grant; parents, Grant and Mabel Comstock; sisters, Wilma Murray & Margaret Comstock; and brothers, Basil, Jim, Bill, Norman, and Grant Comstock.

A family memorial will be held at the graveside, in November, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Evart, Michigan.  Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Memorial Contributions in her name, Norma Jean Philips, to the Bay County Department on Aging, 515 Center Avenue, Suite #202, Bay City, MI  48708.
