Gilbert, Virginia A. (Ginnie/Nuna)

Bay City, Michigan

Virginia passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on the evening of January 12, 2023 at the Toni & Trish House. Born September 28, 1932, to Mary Weiss and Mark Hall, Virginia was raised by her mother and step-father, Walter Weiss. On July 7, 1953, she was united in marriage to Leonard “Squirt” Gilbert and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1958.

Virginia was the definition of a caregiver – raising her children alone after becoming a young widow, caring for her parents as they aged, raising her grandson after her daughter's untimely death and sharing her home with her special brother, Bill and son, Michael. She worked hard to provide a comfortable, loving home and made holidays memorable for her loved ones.

She enjoyed going to Bingo and the casino as well as fishing, “running” with her daughter Mary and spending time with her loved ones. She had fond memories of her many adventures with lifelong friend, Joan (Cabala) Spencer.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Dan) Krause and son, Michael Gilbert. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren: Brian (Lisa), Eric, and Danny (Shawn) Krause, Trisha (Rob) Cordes, J.R. (Vanessa) Narvaiz, Justin Forgette and Garrett, Shawn and Zack (Margaret) Gilbert. Her 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren cherish memories of time spent with her. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends who treated her like family.

In addition to her husband and parents, Virginia was predeceased by her daughter, Sally Medina, grandson Chad Gilbert, siblings William Hall, Kathy (Curt) Jean, Betty Pierson, and Audrey Weiss and several in-laws.

The family offers warmest thanks to the staff at the Toni & Trish House for being so kind and compassionate and taking such good care of “Nuna”.In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Toni & Trish House or a charity of your choice. A family celebration of Virginia's life will be held at a later date.  To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com   Arrangements are made with Cremation Society of Mid Michigan (989) 892-1772.
