Obituary of Elizabeth Lou Hussey

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Elizabeth Lou Hussey, born September 26, 1946, passed away on March 1, 2023. Her last days were spent surrounded by those who survive her, her brothers, Albert and Howard; her sister, Carole; her daughter, Amy; and her son, Donn, and his wife Eleanor. Her husband Donald passed away in 1992, and her final moments were spent wrapped softly in a quilt originally made by his mother and grandmother. It's reconstruction was one of her final projects on this Earth.

She was born in Hastings, Michigan, and moved to Lansing during high school. She then attended Lansing Community College and Michigan State University.  She held many professional jobs in her life: shoe sales, book sales, phone operator, teacher, social worker, school librarian, and coordinator at a moving company. Beyond her professional life, she volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and later in life, Midland Center for the Arts. She was a very active member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She joined the now-defunct Bethlehem Chapter and later Martha Washington Chapter #113, in Saginaw, Michigan. She was also an active member of Makere Temple #99 Daughters of the Nile, a service organization dedicated to supporting the Shiner's Hospitals for Children. She volunteered countless hours to all of these organizations. While nothing came before raising her children and caring for her family, she was deeply dedicated to all of these causes. She spent her last days knowing that she was loved, and expressing her love right up to the last moment she could.  Were she here, she would admonish us that we make our own Heaven and Hell, right here on Earth. She truly and deeply believed that we need to look out for each other.

There will be a memorial at the end of April. If you are interested in attending, please get in contact with her son, Donn. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Daughters of the Nile Foundation.  To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com  Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
