Please share a memory of Eleanore to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eleanore Buchholz, age 91, of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida passed away on March 14, 2023 at Eden Fields Assisted Living Facility in Standish, Michigan. She was born October 13, 1931 in Standish, Michigan to the late Peter and Julia (Dziuban) Dereniak.
Eleanore earned her teaching certificate and taught in a one-room schoolhouse for several years. After marrying Stanley Dean Buchholz, she taught dance at Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Chicago. Her passion for dancing continued throughout her lifetime. Eleanore especially enjoyed dancing the polka, and volunteering at the Frankenmuth Polka Festival for several years.
She and her husband lived in many states, finally settling in Southern California. She worked in the accounting department for the city of Fullerton for many years. When her husband retired, they moved to Ft. Myers Beach Florida. Eleanore summered in Michigan, enjoying gardening with her sister, nieces, and nephews. She enjoyed many family activities due to her large extended family in Arenac County and surrounding areas. Eleanore loved to travel as well - by her 80th birthday she had traveled to over eighty countries with family and friends. Eleanore spoke some German and was fluent in Polish. She was translator the many times she and family members visited relatives in Poland. During her life she experienced growing up on a farm with no electricity and would drive the horse team, Cubby and Jimmy, to work the fields. She experienced the space age as well - she and her husband were some of the first civilians to attend in person, the space shuttle landing at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
Eleanore is survived by her daughter, Lynn Buchholz; grandpuppy, Fang; son, Randy Buchholz, grandchildren, Ryan Buchholz, Brittany Cammie McCabe, and great-grandchild Jason McCabe; son, Kerry Buchholz, grandchildren Kennedy Buchholz and Dallas Buchholz; and daughter, Brenda (Scott) Gregory, grandchildren Tyler (Tania) Gregory, Lindsey (Shawn) Lake, and Connor Gregory; brother, Dr. Eustace Dereniak; sister, Geraldine (Gerald) Halloran; nieces Nadine (Dan) Gill, Stephanie (David) Nappier, Teresa Dereniak, and Andreana (Mark) Pitts; and many, many cousins and friends. Thanks to Eden Fields Assisted Living Facility staff for the care and support they provided to Eleanore and her family. A special thanks to cousin Joan Dziuban Stanley, who devoted so much time to Eleanore both in Florida and in Michigan during her last few years. She was predeceased by her spouse, Stanley Dean Buchholz, and sister-in-law, Barbara Dereniak.
