Obituary of Hubert Darrel Mitchell II

Hubert Darrel Mitchell II “Darrel”, of Bellaire, Michigan (formerly of Saginaw), passed away on May 10, 2023 in Freeland, Michigan after a long struggle with dementia.  He was born on March 3, 1944 in Santa Monica, California, to the late Hubert Darrel Mitchell and Carmen Rose Thorsby.  He was the oldest of two boys and is survived by his brother Dave (Linda) Mitchell of Saginaw. 

 Darrel graduated from Arthur Hill Technical Trade School in 1962 and went to work for the C&O Railroad until 1979 when he moved to Bellaire, Michigan and bought the Bellaire Bar and Restaurant, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2007.  He loved living in Bellaire and was involved in many community events and organizations.  His interests include motorcycles, he rode a Goldwing for many years, and snowmobiling, where he was a member of the Antrim County Snowmobile Club.  He also liked hunting and fishing, as he would take trips to Canada. 

He is survived by two children, Kevin (Kendra) Mitchell of Midland, Michigan and Russell Mitchell of Central Lake, Michigan; grandchildren, Mathew Mitchell and Ty Case; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three children, Kenneth, Kimberly, and Kristine.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  To sign on guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com  Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
