Obituary of Matthew James Moody

Matthew “Matt” James Moody, age 33, of Vassar, Michigan, passed away on June 2, 2023 at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw after an eight-year battle with Lupus and a number of other ailments. 

Matthew was born on October 15, 1989 to Mr. and Mrs. Dennis and Tracy (Hauger) Moody in Saginaw, Michigan.  Matthew was a graduate of Vassar High School and of Davenport University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Programming.  His wishes were always to create his own video games.  While he was never able to follow his dreams, his love for video games never wavered.  Day in and day out, his family could find him playing video games or watching a livestream of someone else playing them.  No one could ever play them quite like he did though and he was not afraid to let someone know that.  Through video games, he was able to gain a whole new virtual community of people that loved him just as the people who knew him in person did.  Matthew also loved spending time with his family, watching movies, tuning into WWE every week, and picking on his little sister.

Anyone that knew Matthew in any format will remember him for his strength and resilience as he fought for his life, all the way up until his last breath.  He will also be remembered for his sharp wit and good humor that got him and everyone around him through many dark days.  Even on his worst day, Matthew could crack a joke to turn someone else’s day around.  As everyone’s own tech support person and comedian, Matthew will be deeply missed. 

Along with his parents, left to cherish Matthew’s memory are his sister, Emily Moody, grandmother, Frances Hauger, Aunt Dawn (Kevin) Kibbe, cousins Amy (Chad) Arnold and James Schmitzer, second family members Ambra Williams, Kerri (Dan) Moore, Josh Moore, Chelsea (Kody) Slough, Tanner Moore, his most special buddy Kinlee Slough, and many other extended family members.  Matthew was predeceased in death by his grandfather Jim Moody, grandmother Phyllis Moody, second family members David Williams and MaeBelle Leonard, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service in Matthew’s honor will be held at the Vassar Eagles on June 25, 2023 from 1pm-6pm.  In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the wishes of the family.
