Obituary of Thomas Roland Schafer

Tom passed away on June 25, 2023. He was born in Bay City on October 12,1950 to the late Roland “Bud” and Marjorie (Bligh) Schafer. Tom was well known for his fun-loving attitude, contagious laugh, and joke telling. At a young age, Tom enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He was a former proud member of the Paradise Hunters Club located in Rexton, Michigan. He had a passion for cooking and loved to grill. After high school, Tom was drafted to the military and served in the U.S. Armed Forces. After his service, he worked and retired from R&R Ready Mix as a loader operator.

Tom is survived by his daughters, Amanda (Tim) Johnson and Ashley (Zach) Jones; step-sons, Jamey (Emily) Bartkowiak and Jason (Veronica) Bartkowiak; step-daughter, Dana (Brad) Tinglan-Schaefer; grandchildren, Marin, Gage, Jack, Graycn, Nora, Maylee, Lucas, Nicholas, Caitlyn, Aiden, Halem and Ryker; sisters, Marion “Mim” (Tom) Killingsworth, and Muriel “Moe” Martin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Diane (Pero) Schafer; grandson, Brady Johnson; nephew, Mark Schafer; siblings, Harriet “Hope” Moore, Jack Schafer, and Larry Schafer. 

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to “The Cabin Association”.
