Horvat, William “Bill” Adam

Sanford, Michigan

Bill passed away on June 29, 2023 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center from complications of a procedure. Bill was born to Emily (Vitorski) and Adam Horvat on April 28, 1930 at the family farm in Wheeler Michigan. After High School Bill bought a milk route and worked it until he was drafted into the Army in 1951. He was an engineer and was stationed in Germany. After serving his country he returned to Michigan and married Mary Posey of Breckenridge MI and they started their family. In 1962 together they moved to Sanford to their forever home in the woods. Bill continued his driving career working for PTI, Coastal Tank Lines, and Chemical Leaman until his retirement in 1990, and was union steward for his Teamsters local for many years.  He is survived by son, Eric (Miye) Horvat of Austin TX, Kim (Dale) Mohowitsch of Coleman MI, William (Denise) Horvat of Everglades City FL, and Jerry Horvat of Sanford MI; son-in-law, Dave Heilig of Sanford MI; grandchildren, Tyler (Birdie) Loveall of Blackwell OK, Christine (TJ) Walthall of Austin TX, Robert (Mariquita) Horvat of San Antonio TX, and Cody (Lisa) Heilig of Fort Campbell KY; and grea- grandchildren, Barrett Loveall, Mason Heilig, Jette Walthall, Ethan Heilig, Michael Heilig, Mary Lynn Loveall, Jones Walthall, and Mariella Horvat. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Mary; daughter, Lori Heilig; brothers, Frank and Stanley Horvat; his sister, Emily Greening; and his many brothers and sisters-in-law.

Bill loved the outdoors and spent many hours in the woods cutting and selling firewood into his 80’s. Bill wasn’t one to sit still, it seemed he was always busy and if not, you could find him watching sports of all kinds. He was a life-long Cleveland fan, following both the Indians and the Browns. GO BROWNIES!! Bill was also an avid reader, and did the NY Times crossword puzzles weekly. Together with family and friends he enjoyed many camping trips to the UP and Northern Michigan. Bill still loved driving and had kept his chauffeurs license current. He especially loved visiting family and friends.  After Mary’s passing in 2018, he continued to care for the family home and yard, along with his special son and co-pilot, Jerry (Luke Skywalker), and they could be seen frequently around town or at Bob Evens, their favorite breakfast spot.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions in Bill’s name can be made to the Arnold Center or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com  Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
