Obituary of Gary William Velat

Gary William Velat, age 70, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2023 at his home in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born on December 11, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Richard Allen Velat and Marian Edith Snow. Throughout his life, he was known for his kind hearted nature and selflessness. He touched the lives of many through his willingness to provide support and his companionship. 

In his free time, Gary enjoyed watching and reading about Michigan athletics, learning about politics and world history/news and listening to music. He found solace and joy in a spending time with his family, being a great grandfather, and keeping up with Michigan sports.

Gary will be deeply missed by his sons, Greg and Randy Velat; his grandchildren, Ryann Petram, Cheyenne Young and Christian Velat; great-granddaughters, Walker and Wrenley McAnnelly; his sisters, Judy (Bob) Pollock, Penny (Mike) Church and Teresa (Eugene) Miller. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Mahl and Sheila Peters; Aunt Kack and Uncle Clifton Backus; and life-long friends, Stuart and David Hursh. 

At Gary’s request, a memorial service has not been arranged to celebrate his life. Family will join to share their memories of him Sunday July 16, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Marine Toys for Tots in honor of Gary. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all those who have shown their love and support during this difficult time. Please join us in remembering the life of Gary. He will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
