William David “Dave” Wellman passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 with his loving family by his side, after a short battle with cancer.

Dave was born on August 9, 1953, raised in Hemlock, and a proud graduate of Hemlock High, Class of ’72. He retired from General Motors. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, drinking coffee, watching bible study, and spending time with the horses.

He is survived by his two children, William David Wellman II and Katee Lynne Wellman (Trent); two sisters, Doretta (Dory) Ruyts of Charleston, SC, and Donna Crofoot of Merrill. He also leaves behind his special friend, Sue Wyman of Midland; sisters-in-law, Denise Wellman of IL, and Sue (Dan) Hart of Saginaw; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Fred “Bum” and Joan (Midcalf) Wellman; a brother, Dale F. Wellman; brother-in-law, David Ruyts; and Laura Wellman, the mother of his children.
