Obituary of Genevieve Elizabeth VanHorn

Jean passed away in her home on August 11, 2023 while in her sleep. Genevieve “Jean” Elizabeth (O’Connor) Van Horn was born in Bay City on October 4, 1952 to the late Frank and Thelma (Tracy) O’Connor. Jean will be sorely missed by all her friends and family. Jean was known for her quick wit and sense of humor, as well as her nurturing and caring personality. She greatly enjoyed working with children in the Pinconning School System for 25 years. However, what brought Jean the greatest joy was her family, friends, caring for others, and telling others about her hope for the future and her God Jehovah. (Ps 83:18, Rev. 21:3,4).  

She is survived by her two children, Kyle Samuel Van Horn and Kelly Jean Van Horn; two siblings, Ruth (Frank) Lofaro and Ryan (Donna) O’Connor; two special brothers and sisters-in-law, Gail (Dave) Fair and Mark (Elsie) Van Horn; many loving nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, (her Superman) Samuel K. Van Horn; and her brother, Riley O’Connor.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2990 E. Wheeler St., Midland MI. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 pm – 2 pm, with light refreshments following the service. There will be a virtual option for those who are unable to attend in person.
