Obituary of Jane Ellen Thomas

Jane Ellen Thomas, age 86, of Beaverton (formerly of Midland), passed away on August 16, 2023 after a 2-year battle with cancer.

Jane held on to be able to celebrate her 65^th wedding anniversary on this date.

Jane was born on October 21, 1936 to Robert and Gladys Lapworth of Lake Odessa, Michigan.  Jane graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1954. She went on to study at Eastern Michigan University, graduating with her teaching certificate.

After graduating with a degree in education, she started her career in Parchment, Michigan as a school teacher, kickstarting a long-term career in education.  One of her favorite positions and true passions, was teaching at the Midland County Jail for over a decade.

After retirement Jane and Lowell spent their time being world travelers and snow birding at their home in Fort Myers, Florida, making memories with family and many great friends.  Jane indulged in many art and craft projects.  Those that knew her best recognized that preparing food for family and friends was her happy place.

Jane was predeceased by her two sisters, Roberta King and Phyllis Decker.  She is survived by her husband, Lowell; daughter, Brenda Bouchey (Jerry); son, Dave Thomas (Vicki); five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two step- grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Jeanette Thomas; and many nieces and nephews. 

A Memorial Service will be held at the Hope United Methodist Church, 5278 N. Hope Rd., Hope, Michigan 48628, on September 16, 2023. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 with the service at 11:00 and a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope United Methodist Church or MyMichigan Hospice.
