Obituary of Raycine Ira Barber, Sr.

Racine “Ray” Ira Barber of St. Helen passed away on September 19, 2023 at the age of 98. Ray was the son of the late Fred & Lotti Barber of Rose City. 

Ray honorably served in the US Navy from 1943-1947, was employed by City Beverage in Pontiac as a driver/salesman, and was a member of the American Legion, & Fraternal Order of the Eagles.  He enjoyed playing cards with his friends & neighbors at the St. Helen Senior Center, and was an active volunteer for many years with the St. Helen fireworks committee.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed snowmobiling & hunting, and in early retirement years loved spending the winter months in Arizona.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Mary Beth Barber; his children Charlene Steinhauer, Sharon Barber, Ray (Dorothy) Barber, Jr., Chris Bailey, his step-children Michael (Nancy) Hughson, Donald (Kim) Hughson, and John (Jim) Hughson, his sisters Phyllis Hoy, and Betty Porter.  Additionally, Ray is survived by his grandchildren Christopher, Bradley, Jennifer, Kari, Nicole, Brett, Sarah, Jeremy, Holly, Tayler & many great-grandchildren.  Ray was preceded in death by his step-son William Hughson, his brother Bob Barber, and his sister June Hoy.
