Markel, Nancy A.
Bay City, Michigan
Passed away peacefully on September 24, 2023, at the age of 78 years. She was born on May 23, 1945, to the late Albert E. and Harriet A. (Wagner) Jonas in Bay City.
Nancy attended Bay City Central High School and soon after graduation in 1963, she started her career in the insurance industry, in which she worked diligently for 45 years until retiring from Saginaw Bay Underwriters. On December 3, 1966, she married Bernard Anthony Markel with whom she raised three wonderful children. Nancy enjoyed attending horse shows to watch her granddaughters compete and liked to camp in several areas of Michigan including annual trips to Silver Lake Sand Dunes with her children and grandchildren. She was also a diehard Detroit Tigers fan following in her father’s footsteps. In addition, Nancy very much enjoyed sewing and was a member of the Creative Quilters club for many years producing beautiful quilts for many of her family and friends. Volunteering was a passion for Nancy. She enjoyed volunteering at The Economy Center along with Wellspring Lutheran Services in Bay City. Nancy also enjoyed working as an election inspector for Monitor Township for many years.
Nancy was an integral part of her family and enjoyed spending as much time with her children and grandchildren as possible. All that knew her, loved her and her amazing smile. She made the world a better place.
She is survived by her spouse, Bernard Markel, children, Tonya Kuizenga (Kurk) of Auburn, Todd Markel (Marnie Ihlenfeld) of Dexter, and Trent Markel of Bay City, and five grandchildren, Ella, Camden, and Keenan Markel, and Olivia and Aliyah Kuizenga as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
