Obituary of Carol "Kay" Srebernak

Please share a memory of Carol "Kay" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On September 23, 2023, Carol “Kay” Srebernak passed away at the age of 85 years old. She was a feisty, resilient woman full of warmth and laughter.  Kay had a special gift for connecting with people and took a genuine interest in others’ thoughts and experiences. She touched many lives and was loved by just about everyone who met her. With her passing, she is reunited with her beloved husband of 63 years, Joseph “Bill” Srebernak.

Kay was the youngest of four children, born on July 26, 1938 in Detroit to Howard and Helen (Carr) Philippart. When Kay was only 12 years old, her father passed away and her mother Helen (another strong, loving woman) continued raising Kay and her three siblings herself.  Kay graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School in 1956. In 1959, she went on a blind date with a man named Bill Srebernak, and they married a year and a half later. Together Kay and Bill raised their six children in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where Kay worked as a dental office manager for more than a decade. Upon retiring, Kay and Bill settled in Bay City and traveled the United States together, finding a second winter home among great friends in Gulf Shores, Alabama. After Bill’s passing in 2019, Kay moved to an apartment in Midland, MI, where she found more wonderful friends and neighbors.

Kay is survived by her sister, Sister Mary Barbara (Nancy) Philippart; six children, Anne (Mike) Rieves, Joe (Helen) Srebernak, Steve (Connie) Srebernak, Ellen (Sean) Sample, Paul (Susan) Srebernak, and Mary (Mike) Jacobs; as well as 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Howard “Mickey” Philippart and Janet (Philippart) Drolshagen; and her husband, Bill.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Blessed Sacrament parish in Midland, MI.
