Please share a memory of Roger to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Roger James Raleigh, age 76, of Gladwin, Michigan passed away on October 5, 2023, in Saginaw, MI. Born on February 12, 1947, Roger was the beloved son of JD and Marcilene Raleigh. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother, Randall Raleigh, his sister Dianne Barney, and his nephew, Brandon Baldwin. He is survived by his son, Roger Raleigh (wife Tammy Raleigh) and grandson Jayden Raleigh; son Remy Raleigh, and daughter Desiree Parsons, and beloved grandchildren Antonio and Therese Rosalez. He is also survived by his sister Linda Powell and her husband David Powell, his brother Russell Raleigh, as well as his niece Marisa Lay (husband Eric Lay) and their children Haley, Marcie, Jacob and Emma, and many other nieces and nephews.
Roger was a man of faith who loved the Lord. He loved his family and was a great musician who loved playing music with friends over the years. He also loved fishing and enjoyed that pastime on Michigan lakes and the ocean off of the coast of Florida. Roger grew up in Montrose, MI and attended Hill McCloy High School before furthering his education at Michigan State University and Spring Arbor College where he earned a bachelor's degree in business. Roger also served years in the US Army both active duty in Vietnam and in the reserves. He was a distinguished Vietnam Veteran who earned many service medals for his dedication, sacrifice and bravery. He was a great cook and also shared this gift with his fellow soldiers as a chef in Vietnam in addition to his service as an infantry soldier.
Roger retired from the State of Michigan as a Veteran's Representative where he found his calling and joy in helping other veterans navigate the bureaucracy of the Government. As a veteran himself he understood the importance of having someone to fight alongside our veterans and fight for them to receive the benefits that they deserved. He never shied away from that fight and proudly succeeded in obtaining those benefits for many veterans despite the govt. opposition. Per Roger's wishes, no funeral services will be held. He will be honored with a private veteran's/military burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan where his cremains will be interred.
