Obituary of Joan Bernice Slabaugh

Joan Slabaugh passed away on November 4, 2023 at the age of 89.  She was born in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Mervin J. LaDrig and Lorraine (Smith) LaDrig. 

She graduated in 1952 from St. Joseph High School.  She worked at Liskow Elementary from 1971 until it closed and then at Ried Calcott DDS until she retired.  She lived life to the fullest and was generous with her time and love.  Joan “Granny” will be truly missed by her family, friends and everyone who came into her life. 

She is survived by 5 children, Laurie Monroe, Joni Hayes, Kimberly Harden, Daniel Slabaugh, and Judy (Bruce) Wieber.  Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Alison (Eric) Funka, Margo (Lee) Monroe, Marcy Monroe, Kurt Wieber, Natalie Wieber, Chloe Slabaugh, Brett Slabaugh, and Sarah Harden; 5 great-grandchildren, Jake, Luke, Lauren, Marinus, and Ivy; and 2 brothers, James LaDrig and Thomas LaDrig. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Vernon Slabaugh in 2015.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1525 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, Michigan.  The family will receive friends on Thursday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers those considering an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Holy Family Catholic Church or Amara Hospice Care.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to our Amara Hospice workers for all the kindness and special care given to Granny.  To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com  Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
