Obituary of Evelyn Marie Tunney

Evelyn M. Tunney, age 90, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2023. She was surrounded by her family at Eden Fields Assisted Living Center in Standish Michigan, which has been her home for the last year. 

Our beautiful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, was born in Saginaw Michigan on May 11, 1933 to the late Richard and Frieda Weiss. She graduated from Saginaw High School and was united in marriage to Richard Tunney on September 14,1952. They remained in Saginaw, then moved to Skidway Lake, and finally made their home in Alpena. Together they shared 64 years, two children, four grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards, bingo, and casino trips. Most of all she cherished family time. She was a member of Alpena's Immanuel Lutheran Church. Sadly, on February 21, 2017 she lost Richard, the love of her life. Thanks to the blessing of many good friends, she was able to remain in Alpena until for health reasons she relocated to Eden Fields.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Harold Weiss and daughter-in-law Terry.

Evelyn's legacy continues on with her son, David Tunney; daughter, Cheryl (Tom) Greene; grandchildren, Jill (Jason) Keefer, Jeana (William) O'Connor, David (Tosha) Tunney, and Eric (Britt) Tunney; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Florence Hrinik; brother-in-law, Bernard (Doris) Tunney; and several special nieces and nephews.

Per Evelyn's wishes, cremation has taken place and a family celebration of life will be held at a later date. We wish to thank Evelyn's many friends for their support over the years. Heartfelt thanks to the amazing staff of Eden Fields for the kind and compassionate care provided.
