Obituary of Katherine Ann Hugo

Please share a memory of Katherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kathy Ann (Shreve) Hugo, age 68, passed away on December 12, 2023. Kathy was born August 31,1955 in Saginaw Michigan.  For over 20 years she battled Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and despite fighting her best fight, she succumbed to the disease. She was predeceased in death by her parents Darwin J. and Betty L. (Jacobs) Shreve. She left Earth to join her husband, Terry E. Hugo, who passed September 25, 2023. Kathy’s lifelong passion for education allowed her to teach thousands of children at Frances Rae Academy, where she was also principal. She enjoyed being the grammar police. She also retired from Bay County as a juvenile probation officer. Kathy was an active member of St. Gabriel Parish Catholic Church.

Kathy loved her grandchildren with all she had. “Camp Puppa-Nunna,” jammy parties, homemade cookies, brownies, pizza, and whatever else they wanted were her most cherished memories. She loved Christmas and had her shopping done by July. She was so proud to sit in the stands and cheer on her grandchildren in athletics, but was more proud of their academic accomplishments. She possessed a selflessness like no other, and until the end, only wanted the best for everyone else. Kathy also possessed the strength of a warrior; yet, the grace and compassion of an angel. Kathy also concealed a hidden side only to be seen when she played Cards Against Humanity. Her laughter was the best sound ever, and she will forever be remembered.

She is survived by her sisters Maureen Shreve and Ginny (Tom) Darnell, and nephew, Thomas J. Darnell, Jr. Her spirit, love, and strength will live on through her children “related by heart and not genetics” and her grandchildren who she spoiled endlessly. They include Bruce Hugo and his daughter, Sophia. Barry and Sheila Hugo and their children Christopher Hugo and Nicole (Devin) Morris; and Stephanie (Hugo) and her favorite son-in-law, Bill Brown and their children, Dylan, Dalton, and Abigail Brown. She also leaves two great grandchildren, Aiden and Ava Morris. She also has many close friends who are left to share her legacy.
