Obituary of Jeffrey Michael Shier

Jeffrey Michael Shier, age 60, of Sebewaing, Michigan, passed away on January 17, 2024 after a short battle with cancer. He was born on June 24,1963 in Silver Spring, Maryland.  Jeffrey, known for his exuberant and fun-loving personality, was a generous soul who always preferred giving to receiving. He had a deep love for nature and took great joy in tending to his plants, feeding the birds, and caring for his cats. He always had a kind word and boisterous greeting for anyone he met.

Jeffrey is survived by his loving mother, Sharon and step-father, John Horny. He is also survived by his brother, RJ (Andra) Shier; sisters, Julie (Chris) Mielke and Amy Kain (Gary Morris); as well as his nephews and nieces, Alan (Heather) Shier, Alex (Chris) Folger, Ashley (Rod) Tietz, Christopher Mielke, Nathan (Kaitlyn) Mielke, Ryan Kain, Lila Kain, and Nolan Morris. Additionally, he is survived by his step-brothers and sisters, John (Shelly) Horning, Steve Horny, Mark (Kathy) Horn, Paul (Anita) Horny, Mary Bai, Tom (Norma) Horny, Judy (Roger) Thompson, and their respective families; including many great nieces and nephews. His many aunts, uncles, cousins, and entire tribe of friends will forever hold him in their hearts. Jeffrey was preceded in death by his father, Randolph Shier; and step-siblings, Dave Horny and Janet Horny. 

Jeffrey attended Unionville Sebewaing Area High School and graduated in 1983.  He lived and worked in Arlington, Texas for a time and enjoyed working on designs with the big camera at American EZ Type.  Back in Michigan, he worked at Michigan Sugar and Gemini plastics.  Jeff loved the beach and could often be seen on long walks through town or even the woods.  If you knew Jeff, you know he could easily get your attention from afar with his unique screech, his signature calling card.  A celebration honoring Jeff’s life will take place in June 2024.  To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com   Arrangements made with Cremation Society of Mid Michigan 1-989-892-1772
