June Churchman

Obituary of June Alma Churchman

Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

June Alma (Kundinger) Churchman, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 18, 2024.

She was born June 10, 1935, in Sebewaing Michigan, to Fred Amendt Kundinger and Olga Brechtel Kundinger.

She attended Bay City Business College in Bay City, Michigan.  She went to work for Dow Chemical, where she met her future husband, Jim Churchman.  She and Jim made life-long friends, through their years at Dow, and those friendships continue to this day.  They enjoyed sailing, and spent several winters in St. Augustine, FL.

June was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed gathering with her church friends, and listening to the beautiful music of the organ and the choir.  She and Jim had a love for music, and they enjoyed many years of singing in choirs and local chorale groups.

June was a truly wonderful and kind person, with a strong faith in God, which she shared with others.  She loved her family, friends, and neighbors, and everyone she met became an instant friend.  She was known for her positive attitude, joyful spirit, and wide smile.

June took the time to enjoy the beauty in the world around her.  She and Jim would take long car rides to enjoy the Midland scenery and to appreciate everything, that the town they loved, has to offer.  She enjoyed gardening and watching the birds from their patio.  Her colorful iris blooms and clematis vines were like a beautiful painting.

She enjoyed cooking and baking, and it warmed her heart to share with friends and neighbors.  We will greatly miss her famous sugar cookies!

June is survived by her husband, Jim, her daughter, Leigh (Mark) Fetterolf of Midland and her son, Britton Churchman of Gallatin TN.   Also surviving is her brother, Brian (Jan) Kundinger of Duluth MN.

She was the proud grandmother of Brandon (Lindsey) Fetterolf, Brittany (Jeff) Wake, and Brooke Fetterolf and proud great grandmother of Charley June Wake, Eleanor James Wake, and Riley Rose Wake.

She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Olga (Brechtel) Kundinger, sister Sylvia, and brother Wayne.

Our hearts are broken by the loss of June.  However, she is with her Lord and Savior, and she is shining down on all of us, which brings great comfort.

Above her kitchen sink is the saying “Every day is a gift from God”, which she truly believed and demonstrated in her life.

June’s family will have a celebration of life service on Friday, June 28, at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Ashman Street, in Midland MI.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM.

A livestream opportunity will be available on Memorial Presbyterian’s website.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorials in June’s name to Memorial Presbyterian Church or Re-Member (which benefits the Oglala Lakota Nation in Pine Ridge SD), or the Humane Society.

The family would like to recognize Brittany Manor, MyMichigan Midland, Compassus Hospice Care, and Right at Home, for the excellent care, compassion, and comfort they provided for June, and for the support provided for her family.  To sign online guestbook, visit www.cremationsocietymidmi.com  Arrangements made with the Cremation Society of Mid Michigan.
