Obituary of Gayla Jane Jacobson

Gayla J. Jacobson of Gladwin, Michigan, passed away at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland on April 26, 2024.  Gayla was born January 14, 1937 in Midland Michigan to the late Carlos Frederick Vanest and Merie Geraldine (Fosgett).

 

She was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #3655.  She retired with her husband and moved to Gladwin Michigan where she has lived out her life, previously residing in Dolton, IL where she was the Vice President of the First National Bank of Chicago. Gayla graduated from Michigan State University in 1959 with a BA degree in business and public service.  She enjoyed nature, was a lover of all animals, and enjoyed watching sports and westerns. She was an active participant in many nonprofit organizations for animals and humanitarian aid. 

 

She is survived by her two sons, Frederick (Rebecca) Hanchett and Robert (Jennifer) Hanchett; her grandchildren, Ashleigh (Cory) Udell, Caitlyn (Neal) Minard, Jared Hanchett, Ethan Hanchett, and Ian Pettengill; great-grandchildren, Robert John Minard, Dean Marshall Minard, and Alexander Lincoln Udell.

She is also survived by nephews, Russ Vanest and David Vanest; and nieces, Janet Corwin, Dana Stahl, and Denise Kracht. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald “Jake” Jacobson; her brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Donna Vanest Sr.; and her sister, Evelyn (Toby) Vanest. 

 

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on July 6, 2024.
