Obituary of Sharon A. Welch

Sharon Welch, age 74, of Midland, MI passed peacefully at home on May 16, 2024, after fighting brain cancer for the past 23 months.  She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Dan C. Welch, her stepson Jason Welch (Samantha) of Indianapolis, Indiana and stepdaughter Jennifer Rader (Geoff) of Odessa, Missouri and her children Jacob and Dakota Moore and Emmalee Osciak; and her father-in-law Donald Welch.  She was predeceased by her parents Marc and Helen Klem of Rochester, New York, her sister, JoAnn Levit, of Shreveport, Louisiana and her brother Steven Klem; as well as by her mother-in-Law Margaret Ruth Welch.  She is also survived by her brother Douglas Klem (Ilene) of Wilmington, North Carolina, their children Justin Lillis (Laura) and Christine Varner (Wes), their children Wylder and Talen; and Jessica Schaul (Ryan) and their children Reagan and Sawyer; nephews Michael Lillis (Valerie) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Patrick Lillis (Estelle) of Los Angeles, California and their children Noland and Arielle; and Sean Lillis (Lyne) of Weare, New Hampshire. Her precious wirehaired terriers Dexter and Bella will forever miss her.

Sharon’s true passion was horses, whether riding English Pleasure, showing, or just being around them.  Arabians were her first love, and she won many national ribbons on the National Circuit and placed in the top 10 in national-level events.

A native of Rochester, NY, Sharon was a graduate of Northwood University.  She joined the Legal Department of The Dow Chemical Company in 1980, rising to and ultimately retiring from the position of Executive Assistant to the General Counsel in 2000.

Sharon enjoyed life and found humor in all things.  For her, there was something to laugh about in all situations, whether positive or negative, and her favorite laughs were often generated at her own expense.  She was a perfectionist in her career, her horse showing, riding and decorating her home.  She also enjoyed preparing delicious meals for family and friends.

Her friends will always remember her style, sense of humor, dedication and professionalism, and most of all her quick smile and infectious laughter.

A celebration of Sharon’s Life will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Aldersgate Church, 2206 Airfield Lane Midland 48642.  Those wishing to honor Sharon’s memory are asked to consider the Humane Society of Midland County, 4371 East Ashman Street Midland, Michigan, and/or Midland County Pit Stop.
