Paul Walter Claes, of 104 W. Ionia St., Bay City, Michigan, passed away June 2, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born to Walter and Bernice (Pietruszewski) Claes on June 3, 1945, Paul lived a life of love, adventure, and passion. He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his sister, Judee Lybrand; sons, Andrew Paul Claes (Catherine), and Matthew Donald Claes; daughters, Kristina Rubis (Brent) and Stephanie Wawrzynowski; and niece, Terry Lybrand.
A devoted father, Paul found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, finding solace in nature's embrace. Camping trips with family and friends held a special place in his heart, where stories were shared and memories were made. Paul's love for sports, including basketball, horseshoes and softball, was evident in his enthusiastic support for his grandchildren on the field. He also enjoyed friendly competitions, whether it be playing backgammon, cards, or engaging in lively discussions about politics. His keen interest in politics sparked many insightful conversations, where he shared his views with passion and conviction.
He was also a loving brother who always made his sister Judee laugh and smile. Their bond was strong and filled with joy, and his ability to bring happiness to her life was a testament to the kind and loving person he was.
Paul's greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren play sports, cheering them on with unwavering pride. He is survived by his grandchildren, Addam Matthew Claes, Abigail Rose Kamin (Derek), Leah, Lexi, and Lauren Rubis, Jayson Wawrzynowski, Tamara Claes, and Garrett Ballard. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife Becky, whom he adored; as well as his parents, Walter and Bernice; and brother, Robert “Bob”.
His love and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Though he has embarked on his final journey, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. Rest peacefully, Paul, knowing your legacy of love, adventure, and passion will endure for generations to come.
