Obituary of Mazi Karega-Amili DeBrodt-Sharper

Mazi Karega Amili DeBrodt-Sharper, age 44 of Saginaw, Michigan and Montrose passed away 15 June 2024 at U of M Hospital, Ann Arbor surrounded by family.  Mazi was born in Saginaw, Michigan on 1 May 1980 to Howard M. Sharper Jr. and Ruth A. DeBrodt. Mazi attended Saginaw Public Schools and Francis F. Reh Academy and studied Business at Baker College. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving with Bravo Company 124th Marine Reserve.

Mazi owned and operated Sharper Image Reconstruction with his brothers Beno and Kito, and also did business as Odd Jobs Unlimited with Beno and Kito. He previously had been employed at Saginaw YMCA, Towline, SM&P, Retro Rocks / several establishments in Saginaw's Old Town. As a teen, Mazi volunteered with Saginaw Habitat for Humanity. 

With no reservation Mazi was a GOOD GUY ... one of God's best ... eager and happy to help others, joyful in life, serious about the trials of this life ... a man of great faith who lived that faith and left this life in that faith. Mazi has gone to his promised perfect home. 

Mazi leaves to cherish his memory, his true wife Jennifer McCarley whom he loved deeper than and above his own self; his daughter and first love, pride and joy and "mad respect", Safiya Sharper; step-sons he loved, appreciated, respected and enjoyed, Dylan McCarley and Gage McCarley.

He is also survived by his mother, Ruth Sharper; brothers, Kanyama D.Sharper, Issa Beno D. Sharper (Natalie), and Kito D. Sharper (Amber Hubbard); sisters, Sofana Miller (Craig), Briana D. Sharper, Maisha D. Sharper, Tulani Sharper, Mariama Sharper, and Kalifah Baldwin (Dominique); as well as uncles, Paul DeBrodt, Omowale Art Smith, and Winston Travis; aunts, Rev. Gwen Hatter (Rev. Jerry), Ollie Ruth Sharper, and Marie DeBrodt; a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces; his mother-in-law, Madonna Birch; brother-in-law, Kevin Birch; and many beloved friends, including Ysabel Aguilar and Alexia Aguilar whom he loved as daughters. 

Mazi was preceded into heaven by his father, Howard M. Sharper Jr.; and his grandparents, Howard M. Sharper Sr., Ruby Jewell Muckleroy Sharper, Rev. William H. DeBrodt, and Loretta M. Forman DeBrodt. 

The family would like to thank U of M Hospital: Ambulatory Diagnostic and Treatment Unit especially RN Paula Grant, RN Megan Klei, RN Amy C. Johnson, Carrie; Emergency Department ICU especially RN Britteny; and Critical Care Medical Unit especially RN Kelli; MedStar Ambulance especially Mariama Sharper, Jonathon Croft, Jimmy Love, Jeremy Compau; Natalie D. Sharper; Red Horse Bar Saginaw Nick Adams and Chris Adams; and Cremation Society of Mid-Michigan.A Memorial Celebration will be held Thursday 8 August 2024 from 2pm - 4pm at Spaulding Twp. Hall, Rev. Gwen Hatter will preside and lead us in Scripture and prayer.
