Obituary of Leroy Angus McCormick
Please share a memory of Leroy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LeRoy Angus McCormick, of Birch Run, passed away on July 30, 2024, surrounded by his family to whom he gave his wholehearted devotion. Born on June 27, 1938 to Angus and Kate McCormick, LeRoy grew up in Saginaw where he attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic school, and later moved to St. Charles and then to Birch Run. LeRoy worked for Grey Iron Foundry for 36 years. Regardless of where he lived or worked, you could find him having breakfast at a local diner and sharing a laugh with his friends, family, and neighbors. He is remembered as a kind and gentle soul who was forever willing to come at the drop of a hat if asked.
LeRoy married Patricia (Haley) McCormick who predeceased him in 1964, and then Cora (Tilden) McCormick who predeceased him in 2012. He is survived by his five children: Nancy (Barry) Wittig, Deborah (Bruce) Daenzer, Laura (Desiree) McCormick, Linda (Raju) Kapoor, and Michael McCormick, 15 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mary Kay (Steve) Klapko. It was the joy of LeRoy’s life to love and care for his family and friends, and he is marked by his legacy of love and generosity for all.
Always proud of his Scottish heritage, LeRoy became “Lord” LeRoy McCormick when he was gifted a parcel of land in Scotland. He regularly attended the Scotch Picnic (though he never sported a kilt!). He also enjoyed his other pastimes of bus trips to the casino, fast-pitch softball, coaching sports, bowling, and golf. He was an avid hockey fan and a season ticket holder for the Saginaw Spirit.
In his later years, he joined and was active in the Birch Run Moose Lodge 2426, where he was loved and made many friends he considered family. LeRoy was awarded Moose Legionnaire of the Year in 2023 and was Sergeant at Arms in 2024.
LeRoy requested not a funeral service, but rather a 'Celebration of Life‘. The ‘Celebration of Life’ will take place at the Birch Run Moose Lodge 12326 Gera Rd. Birch Run, MI 48415 Saturday August 24, 2024 from 3pm-8pm. Those wishing to honor LeRoy’s memory are invited to make a donation to the Birch Run Moose Lodge 2426 in his name, and the donation will be passed on to Moose Haven, a home for seniors, per LeRoy’s wishes.
