Obituary of David Ross Burdine
David R. Burdine “Dave” went to be with his Lord on September 16, 2024 following a year-long battle with cancer. He was born on September 18, 1943 to Esta Charlotte (Jones) and Arlis Earl Burdine. On May 9, 1998 he married Sharon Bennett Burdine in Prescott, Michigan. They have resided for the last 26 years in West Branch, Michigan. Dave had previously lived in Merritt, Michigan where he was a dairy farmer, from 1975 to 1996 when he made the move to West Branch. Dave loved being a farmer and driving his little John Deere hobby tractor. He later became a truck driver and worked both locally and over the road for many years prior to his retirement in 2011. He then spent many years mowing for Ogemaw Commission on Aging.
Dave enjoyed camping, and especially sitting around the campfire “shooting the breeze”. He and Sharon enjoyed many trips including Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri and North Dakota with friends and to visit family.
In later years, Dave became an avid church attendee and participated with helping with Churchill Church’s annual apple pie sales, working diligently in every capacity from peeling apples to assembling pies. Dave also proudly served in the Marines from 1961-65 and was always proud to stand and be recognized for his service.
Dave is survived by Sharon, his wife of 26 years; his children, Becky (Chris) Lattimer, Dwight (Susan McLean) Burdine, Lisa Burdine, Brian (Juliet) Artman, and April (James) Zettel. He is also survived by treasured grandchildren, Kristy Boglarsky, David (Bree Twilliger) Burdine, Cassondra (Caleb) Sweet, Sara (Michael) Deyarmond, Emily (Kyle) Wangler, Cain (Elizabeth) Edavane, Steven (Sara) Zettel, and Connor and Cole Artman; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by siblings, Tommy (Sharon) Burdine of Lake City MI, Richard (Shirley) Burdine of Albuquerque NM, Jack Burdine of Flat Lick KY, Michael (Patricia) Burdine of Lebanon MO, and Linda Jermeay of Lake City MI; and many wonderful and loving nieces and nephews.
