Obituary of Darlene Kay Allen

Please share a memory of Darlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Darlene Kay Allen, age 83, of Sumner, Michigan, passed away peacefully with family by her side at My Michigan Health – Alma, on September 17, 2024. She was born January 7, 1941 in Alma, Michigan, to Joseph and Emma McCreery. She was a graduate of Ithaca High School Class of 1959. Later that same year, she married Jack Allen, and went on to spend nearly 65 years together. They had two kids that were their world.

Darlene retired from Carson City Hospital, where she worked in Environmental Services. After retirement, she decided to occupy some of her time working at JC Penny in Alma for 7 years, and enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She looked forward to hosting their annual Memorial Day Camping party with family and friends. Her days were spent working on crossword puzzles, collecting flamingos, and cheering on the Detroit Tigers. During the summer, you could also find her working in their garden, or by a bonfire at night. Darlene’s crazy antics left everyone on their toes, never knowing what prank would come next. She loved Loretta Lynn almost as much as she loved her husband… if not more. You would always know it's her walking through the door because you would hear “Hey Loretta!”

She is survived by her loving husband Jack; their two children, Joe Allen and Kathy (Randy) Davis of Sumner, MI; grandchildren, Matt (Sarah) Jorae, Mike (Angela) Jorae, Jaccii (Blake) Maylee, Morgen (Jake Ford) Allen, and Lilly Alguire; and 3 great-grandchildren, Aidan, Barrett and Monroe Jorae. She is also survived by her brother, LeRoy McCreery of Alma, MI; and brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Evelyn Allen of Sumner, MI; many nieces and nephews; several friends; and special friend, Margie Hyde.

She was welcomed at Heaven’s Gates by her parents, Joseph and Emma McCreery; father and mother-in-law, Duane and Francis Allen; brother, Melvin McCreery; sister, Marilyn Leslie; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Judy Stark; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, October 12, 2024, at New Haven Church of God, 8102 W.
