Please share a memory of Joy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joy Lee Gillette, a cherished soul known for her warmth and compassion, passed away on October 15, 2024, surrounded by family at the age of 63 in Coleman, Michigan. Born on November 25, 1960, in Bad Axe, Michigan, Joy was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her, embodying her name in every aspect of her life.

A proud graduate of Mt. Morris High School, class of 1978, Joy went on to further her education at Great Lakes Junior College, where she earned an Associate's Degree in Business. Her commitment to her community was evident through her professional endeavors. Joy diligently served as an apartment manager at Woodview Village, where she was much more than a manager; she was a friend, a confidante, and a pillar of support to the residents.

Her dedication to her community extended into her work with the Decennial Census in 1980, 1990, 2000, and 2010, where she played a vital role as an Address Canvasser and Field Operations Clerk. Her meticulous attention to detail and her ability to connect with people made her an invaluable asset to the census team.

Joy's caring nature was most apparent in her role as a caregiver. She devoted countless hours to the care of her extended family, providing not just physical support but emotional strength as well. Joy and her husband without hesitation left their home and traveled to where help was needed. Her selflessness and love knew no bounds, and the impact she had on her family's lives will be a lasting legacy.

Beyond her professional and familial commitments, Joy was an avid and talented crafter. Her hands were rarely still, as she created beautiful works of art that brought joy and beauty into the world. Each piece she crafted was a testament to her creativity, her eye for detail, and her love for bringing happiness and teaching her crafts to others.

Joy's legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, Roderick (Tony) Gillette, who stood by her side in both laughter and tears. Her children, Wendy (Russel) Harris and Tony Gillette, will remember her as the foundation of their lives, a mother whose guidance and affection knew no bounds. Joy's love extended to her stepdaughter, Reanne (Richard) Keidel, and her cherished grandchildren, Adam and Jessie Harris, Rhylin, Ronan, Rory, and Reagan Keidel, who will miss their grandmother's warmth and caring. Joy’s “mama-bear” protection was lovingly evident to Jessie and Adam since birth. She was a beloved sister to Carol Berghahn, Bonnie (Jim) Defrees, Mary (Chris) Salgot, and Rosemary (Chris) Carter. Her brothers, Ralph Allan, Tom (Tammy) Allan, and Mark (Norah) Allan, and heart family Laurie and Lyman Tanner who will hold dear the memories of their sister's unwavering support and kindness. Joy also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Daniels, Vickie (Grant) Marcoux, Cindy (Gene) Spencer, and brother-in-law Kenneth Gillette, who will all miss her deeply. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Lee W. and Ellen R. (Burtch) Allan, her parents-in-law, Richard and Adeline Gillette, her sister, Susan Brewer, her brothers, Jim and Bill Allan, and her brothers-in-law, Frank Brewer, David Berghahn and Rick Gillette along with sisters-in-law Dawn Allan and Barbara Allan and Great-nephew Jonathon Organ. Her fond memories will also be treasured by her aunt and uncle, Reverend John and Karen Allan, who admired her faith and strength. With her large family she leaves a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews and their children as well as numerous cherished cousins and close friends. Joy's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the impact one person can have on so many. She faced her illness with the same grace and dignity that characterized her entire life. Her courage, humor, and love remained steadfast, a comfort to those around her even in the most challenging times. As we remember Joy, we celebrate the life of a woman who was truly aptly named. She spread joy effortlessly, touched lives deeply, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. Her spirit, characterized by generosity and kindness, will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Joy's journey through life was one of purpose, love, and an unwavering commitment to making a positive difference. While her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the love she shared will forever be cherished
