Frances “Fran” Lovejoy

Frances Lovejoy, age 78, of Bay City (formerly Cass City), died, surrounded by family, Friday, December 6, 2024 in Bayfield Assisted Living & Memory Care, Bay City. She was born March 21, 1946 in Caro to the late Carleton and Georgene (VanWinkle) Palmer.  

Fran graduated from Marlette High School, Marlette, MI. She then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Michigan in 1969.  After graduation, she moved to Cass City, Michigan where she was hired as a kindergarten teacher at Campbell Elementary School.  She continued to teach Kindergarten, Third Grade and Young 5’s for 39 years for Cass City schools until her retirement in 2009. Fran was an avid sewer. She made quilts and clothing for all of her children and grandchildren, and sewed a little heart in each piece to represent Grandma’s Love. Fran will be remembered for her generous and kind nature to both people and animals. Fran rescued many cats over the years and had many dogs she loved dearly. She enjoyed sitting in her home watching the birds at her feeders while listening to John Denver. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was happiest when her family was with her.

Fran is survived by her children, Amy Schuette of Bay City and Sarah (Michael) Brodie of Midland; grandchildren, Erin (John) Tuckey, Olivia Schuette, Emily Fritz, Allison Fritz, and Alex Fritz; great-grandchildren, Jasper, Posie, and Forest Tuckey; sisters, Linda Palmer and Mary (Michael) Daniels; brother, Thomas Palmer; several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 20, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church of Cass City, 6505 Church St., Cass City, with a luncheon to follow at the church. The family will receive friends at church prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM.
