Obituary of Richard Francis Calkins

Richard Francis Calkins passed away on January 5, 2025 at the age of 75. Surrounded by his friends and family, he succumbed to ALS after a short battle. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1949 to his parents, Rose Marie Schreiber and Francis Joseph Calkins. He is preceded in death by his daughter Heidi Zoltak (Chris). Richard leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Teresa Calkins (Plount), his kids, Alex Calkins (Chara Bouma-Prediger) and Kristin McNamara, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three siblings: Ed Calkins, Tim Calkins and Annie Calkins (David Hunsaker). 

Richard worked for the State of Michigan for many years. He loved his work making communities healthier and safer over his long tenure. His other passion was the outdoors. He spent countless hours in deer blinds, flooded fields, on the waters of Saginaw Bay and lakes all over the wilds of Canada. He leaves behind so many good friends; and so many critters left uncaught and uncooked. This was probably his greatest regret.
