Obituary of Marian Emma-Jewel McGillivray

Marian Jewel McGillivray, 97, of Midland, went peacefully to be with Jesus at the home of her son, Dan, Wednesday evening, Nov 26, 2014. She was born May 26, 1917 in Negaunee, MI, daughter of the late William and Edith (Dawe) Prout. Marian Prout married William A. McGillivray April 18, 1942 in Waukegan, IL He died December 14, 1977.During WWII Marian followed her Navy husband, Bud to Key West, FL and then Corpus Christi, TX before going back to civilian life in Zion, IL. The family moved to Midland, MI in 1949. Marian was a RN but chose to be a homemaker until her daughter, Patsy, started High School. She then joined her two sisters, Phyllis Galbreth and Dora Doolittle, also RNs, working at The King's Daughter's Home on Rodd Street in Midland, both preceded her in death. Along with her extended family, she loved to knit and was constantly making dishcloths until a few months before her death. She loved giving the one she was working on to whoever was near when it was finished. She belonged to TOPS for many years and Debbie enjoyed going with her for several years. Survivors include her children Patsy McGillivray of Grand Rapids, Dan and Debbie McGillivray of Midland, Granddaughters Charmagne (McGillivray) and Dinesh Kaushal, Denise Wiles of Midland, Dena Rouse, Deanna (Rouse) and Matt Klann of Atlanta, GA, Holly McGillivray of Grand Rapids, MI, and grandsons Dane McGillivray of Tampa, FL and Dennis and Michelle Wiles in TX; and 10 great-grandchildren. Two great-grandchildren preceded Marian in death. Following Marian's wishes cremation has taken place. A life celebration gathering will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Saturday December 27, 2014 at Midland Baptist Church, 5009 Jefferson Avenue , Midland .
