Obituary of Walter J. Martini

Walter Jerome Martini Vassar,Michigan Walter Jerome Martini, age 82, was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on December 19, 2014. Walter was born on May 13, 1932 to Walter Harold Martini and Esther ViEva (Kinney) Martini. He attended Lansing Sexton High School graduating with the Class of 1950. Walter married Dorothy on August 27, 1994 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Vassar. He was a typesetter at The Saginaw News and was Head of Maintenance at Aleda E. Lutz Veteran's Hospital. He served in the US Navy and Coast Guard. Walt was a faithful Trustee and member of various committees at St. Luke's Lutheran Church and enjoyed working and traveling with WELS Builder's for Christ. Walt was a member of Frankenmuth and Richville Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Vassar Historical Society. Walt enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events. His hobbies included downhill skiing and golf. Walt looked forward to spending time with the "coffee club" that met at McDonald's in Vassar each morning. Walt is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Cheryl (Tim) Bissonnette; step-daughter Amy (Scott) Kutsch; step-sons Brian (Terry) Hecht and Mike (Kristen) Hecht; brother, Jim (Suzanne) Martini; nephew, Don (Eileen) Martini; grandchildren, Taylor (Matt) Hawley, Aaron Hecht, Madison Kutsch, Andrew Kutsch, Nick Bissonnette, Alexis Bissonnette, Shea Hecht, and Michael Hecht; and great-grandchild, Baby Hawley. Walt was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral will be held on January 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Vassar with burial at Deepdale Memorial Park, Lansing. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church or School.
