Obituary of Gary Lee Ouellette

Gary Lee Ouellette, died on Sunday May 10, 2015. Gary was born to Albert Jr and Vera (Ball) Ouellette in Highland Park, MI on June 11, 1947. He graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1965 and joined the United the States Marine Corps. He was a Combat Veteran of the Vietnam War and proud member of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165. After an honorable discharge, Gary worked a variety of jobs, but spent the longest amount of time as a short-haul truck driver. He lived all over Michigan, including Marquette, Tustin, and Detroit, and was most recently residing in Lennon. His favorite location was the Upper Peninsula, which he continued to visit every year for deer camp. Gary was an avid outdoorsman. His interests included hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, camping and travel. He looked forward to reuniting with his brothers from his Marine squadron every year. He loved animals and cherished his dog, Freckles, and his cat, Harley. Gary is survived by his mother, Vera Ouellette of Clare, MI; two devoted daughters, Allison Watkins (Scottie) and Kimberly Higgins (Tim), both of Lansing, MI; two beloved grandsons, Chance and Gage Amon, both of Lansing, MI. He was the oldest of three and his two brothers, Randy Ouellette (Colleen) of Gowen, MI and Timothy Ouellette (Corky) of Loomis, MI also survive him, along with several loving nephews and a niece. He is preceded in death by his father, Albert Ouellette Jr. The date of his burial service is June 5th, 2015, at 2:30 p.m at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. A memorial service for family and friends to share their memories will be held immediately following (location to be determined). In lieu of flowers,donations can be made to the family, which will be used for his daughters to attend the HMM-165 reunion in October in his honor. These donations can be addressed to either daughter and sent to 3001 Cooley Dr., Lansing, MI 48911. Donations can also be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his memory.
