Gloria Rybkowski

Obituary of Gloria Jean Rybkowski

Rybkowski, Gloria J. "Grandma Cookie" Auburn, MI Mrs. Rybkowski, age 74, came to peace at her childhood home after a long battle with cancer. She passed on Tuesday morning, June 16, 2015 with family by her side. The daughter of the late Hugh and Edith (Brandt) Burns was born October 3, 1940 in Bay County. As a young lady walking with Sharon Pickelman after school one day, Gloria noticed a young lad walking by himself and asked him to walk with them. Little did she know that her invitation to this boy named Gerald would be the start of something beautiful. On April 23, 1960 she married the love of her life, Gerald Richard Rybkowski, with whom she had 6 daughters. She was preceded in death by her second born, Sheri Lynne. She is survived by Terri (Seon) Cummins, Sharon (Brian) Setula, Sandi (Roger) Rybkowski, Susan (Kim) Rybkowski, & Jeri (Tom) Wagner. During her late teens Gloria worked at Hugh's Hut which was right next to where she would later start her own family. As the years went on she also took work at Auburn Gasland and tried her hand at the custodial arts working for Kellermeyer, Midland Maintenance, and Sudexo. Mrs. Rybkowski enjoyed playing cards, bowling, going tubing and camping, as well as going to the car races. As a free and adventurous spirit with a wild sense of humor, she loved to pull pranks and crack jokes to get a laugh and smile from you. She also really enjoyed watching her Detroit Tigers play. She always seemed to be the life of the party. Aside from that, she understood the depths of forgiveness, the value of family, and to tell you to always put forth your best. She also is preceded in death by a sister, Carol Burns and a brother and sister in law, Ray and Carol Burns. She will be missed also, by her surviving grandchildren, Tom (Lauri) Yaworski Jr., Tracy Brewer, Brandon (Cecy) Wilson, Bobby (Angie) Rybkowski, Daniel Wilson, Stacey Toporski, & Eddie (Theresa) Rybkowski; 5 great-grandchildren, Dylan Yaworski, Charleigh Hoult, Riley Brewer, Joseph and Avianna Wilson; a very special aunt, Shirley Brandt and niece Rae Deane Dorion; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and long- time family friends Junior and Cindy Diaz. A celebration of Gloria's life and a benefit is currently scheduled for August 22, 2015. Further details will be provided at a later date.
