Obituary of Shukri A. Zazou

Shukri Abed Zazou, 75, died on Friday, January 22 in Ann Arbor, MI with his loved ones by his side. Mr. Zazou was born in Jerusalem on August 13, 1939 to Kulbayaz Bukhari and Abed Zazou. He came to the United States in his 20's, living in Washington DC before moving to Michigan. He proudly became a citizen of the United States in 1974. He trained for and became a journeyman welder and was employed by Defoe Shipbuilding and Aerospace Technologies. In more recent years Mr. Zazou was employed at Jacobson's in Downtown Saginaw, where his helpful and charming nature was much appreciated by his customers. A man of unique talent and perceptiveness, Mr. Zazou will be most remembered for his impact and contributions to Bay City's artistic community. An award-winning and prolific artist in several media including sculpture, ceramics and drawing, he gave countless hours of his time as a volunteer at Studio 23 and at Bay City Players. In recent months he collaborated on mixed media projects with fellow artists at C.A.T. Work Art Gallery. He is survived by his brother Nasser, his sisters Shehenaz, Samar, Amal, Sahar, Sulafa, and Shuikar, his stepsons, numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and an enormous number of people who loved him very much. There will be a memorial event for Mr. Zazou on March 12, 2016, at the Studio 23 Gallery from 3:00PM to 6:00PM.
