It saddened me greatly to hear of my Tia Mere's passing. I will always carry the fond memories I have of both her and my Tio Lopez. Growing up at the farm I looked forward to their visits. They were always so kind to my brothers and me. I have so many good memories left to cherish.
I would like to express my deepest condolences to my cousins during this difficult time. Growing up she always spoke fondly of each of you.
My parents and my brothers express their deepesr condolences, especially my mom, on the passing of her sister.
Our thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.
Love,
Mandy and family

My heartfelt sympathies ... I am so glad I was able to see Maria Saturday prior. She always warmed my heart with her smile. Regardless how she felt or what was going on with her she always asked about my parents or how I was doing. Her caring thoughtfulness was always evident every time I saw her. I will miss seeing her smile. She is with her beloved husband and my parents, and I know one day I will see her smile again.

My thoughts of Tia Mere are many, but to tell a few. She was always thoughtful, every time she came to visit she always brought us something, and made time to visit . everybody. Family was important to her. I admired that. She cooked with love, it was always 'so good'! I will miss her stories and laughter, she enjoyed making others happy. My love & prayers to all the family. May you feel God's loving arms around you during this time, and know that He is with you each day. Many hugs to each of you, Norma G.

First, my condolences to the Lopez family. Second, how can I not share a memory or two since I grew up exactly one block away from the Lopez family. They lived on Orange St. and we lived on Apple St. Yeah, we were the fruits.
When the Lopez family moved into the neighborhood, Jose joined my 5th grade class. We became immediate friends which would lead me to know everyone in the family. One thing I remember was asking Jose to sneak out some tortillas that his mom made every morning. It wasn't easy. These weren't just for snacks; these were for the family meals. We just wanted some of her delicious tortillas that were 10 times better than the ones bought in the stores.
Another memory is the way Jose would tease her without her knowing it. She would say, "Jose, where are your 'choes'?" Jose would respond with all seriousness, "My 'choes'?" "Yeah", she would say, "your 'choes'." Like many Spanish speakers who learn English later in life, she could not hear the difference between "choes" and "shoes". Jose got such a laugh from this.
A final memory has to do with baseball. Jose and I, along with some others, played on the same baseball team year after year. One year, our friend Dan decided that he didn't like the way Mr. Lopez was coaching so he wanted to get a new coach or leave the team. He ended up leaving the team. When we played against the team that Dan was on, Mrs. Lopez did not forget it. As Dan got up to bat, everyone could hear the screeching voice of Mrs. Lopez. "Come on BIG MOUTH! Let's see what you can do! You think you're so much better?" She did not let up the entire time that Dan was up to bat. The next year Dan came back to the team. Mrs. Lopez showed she could be forgiving and Dan admitted, "Damn, I couldn't hit with her yelling like that. You could hear her like she was shouting through a loud speaker." Yup, she was effective.
Thank you Mrs. Lopez for the memories. My childhood was enriched because you were in it.
My best wishes to the rest of her family. Viva la familia!
