Obituary of Dara Gwen John

John, Dara Gwen (Sprague, Sakall) Mt. Pleasant, MI Dara Gwen John passed away on March 13, 2016 at the age of 63 after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born July 31, 1952 to the late Russel and Mary Lou Sprague of Farwell, Michigan. Dara was an adjunct professor of Sociology at Mid-Michigan Community College and formerly Central Michigan University. Through the years, she was active in many groups and forums regarding women's safety and empowerment, diversity, LGBT rights and much more. She was devoted to making her community a better place for everyone and touched many lives while doing so. Her interests and hobbies were many and varied. She enjoyed sewing, counted cross-stitch, reading (especially Stephen King), watching movies and TV, cooking and baking. She is survived by her children, Heather (Avery) Bowen (Sakall) of York, Pennsylvania and Brian Sakall of Mount Pleasant, Michigan; her siblings: Stephen Sprague (Lisa Bedner) of Bloomington Springs, Tennessee; Brad (Vanessa) Sprague of Leota, Michigan; and Lynn (Kevin) Miele of Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Also many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins. She will be missed by all. A memorial service is being planned for the fall of 2016; the location and time yet to be determined.
