Obituary of Gerald Carsten Ziemer

GERALD CARSTEN ZIEMER Rose City, Michigan formerly of Zilwaukee Jerry, the only child of the belated Carsten and Loretta Pincombe Ziemer was born on November 4, 1937 and entered the life hereafter on April 27, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Jerry grew up on the west side of Saginaw, Michigan living in a household with loving parents and grandparents. After graduation from Arthur Hill High School in 1955 he enlisted in the Marine Corps. His Marine experience provided worldwide travel, he developed a deep and dedicated devotion for his country and the Corp. He remained a proud and loyal Marine throughout his life. Upon returning to Saginaw he was employed by Lufkin Rule where he met and married Sue Oyster on May 5, 1962 at First Presbyterian Church in Saginaw (she survives him). After Lufkin Rule moved out of Saginaw, Jerry became an employee of U.S Graphite and remained there for 26 years. Jerry and Sue moved to Zilwaukee in 1967and he became actively involved in the community along with serving on several city governmental committee. He was the local Lion's Club Past President and became a Zone Chairman for that service organization. Jerry and Sue are blessed with two children, Lisa (Ziemer) Schaeding, Kochville, and Jack (Michelle) Ziemer, Bridgeport. Also surviving is son in law Don Schaeding who remains close to them. Lisa and Jack's marriages presented Jerry with five beloved grandchildren, Kyle, Colleen and Christopher Schaeding and Nicholas and Eric Ziemer. Jerry was a proud grandfather and each grandchild was very special to him. Jerry's sister and brother in law Marilyn and John Jarema shared their four-generation family and activities with him bringing added joy and smiles into his life. Several cousins also survive. Jerry loved to golf, watch John Wayne movies, and go hunting with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid University of Michigan sports fan and followed the New York Yankees closely. After retirement in 2000, Jerry and Sue moved to Rose City where they thoroughly enjoyed riding through the woods and trails in their Kawasaki Mule as well as communing with their friends and neighbors who became appreciatively their "Rose City family". Jerry's family would like to invite his relatives and friends to a "Celebration of his life" where you can share your memories of him with them.
