Obituary of Sandra L. Thayer
Sandra Lee Thayer of Hale MI passed away on September 3, 2016 following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer, she was 71 years old. Sandra was born to the late Emma Jane Beebe (Green) and Frederick Elsworth Beebe in Flint, MI on June 10, 1945. Sandra was a member of the Assembly of God and taught Sunday school for many of her younger years and later met and was united in marriage to Herbert George Thayer on August 27, 1962. They celebrated their 33rd anniversary before his death on August 17, 1996. She enjoyed cooking for groups and schools at Camp Mahn Go Tah See where she worked for many years as well as taking care of people in their homes who couldn't take care of themselves. During the summers when she wasn't working Sandra loved camping and fishing in Canada with her family where she enjoyed baking and cooking over an open fire. Sandra's love for sewing created many memories for family and friends, and she enjoyed her collection of dolls and angels from them. Most of all, Sandra loved spending time with her children playing Hand and Foot or Spades and cooking and baking for and with them. Sandra loved all her family and was loved by so many. Left to cherish her memory are her 5 children. Leo (Carol) Thayer of South Branch, Larry Thayer (Janice Leach) of Hale, Lisa (Dennis) Thompson of Rose City, Emma (Edwin) Woodruff of South Branch, Herb Thayer of MI (Rafaila (Dino) Torrez of FL) as well as 26 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and was anticipating the birth of 5 additional great grandchildren. Sisters Sally Hicks of Flint, Ella (Mike) Hall of Hale, Step dad Lynn (Karen) O'Connor of Hale, brothers Lynn (Kathy) Beebe of Hale, Allen O'Connor of Hale, William (Martha) Beebe of TN, stepbrothers Howard (Bonnie)Tucker of Kingston, MI, (Pat)Tucker of Caro, MI, and Bob Tucker of IA, as well as many nieces and nephews. Sister in law Laura (Paul) Kaiser of Whittemore, brother in laws Raymond Pelton of South Branch, Leonard (Maryellen (Punk) ) Thayer of South Dakota, Brian (Sandy) Thayer of Long Lake, and extended family members Crystal Thayer of Hale, Amy Labelle of Lupton, and Roy Fowler of St. Charles . Sandra was predeceased by granddaughters Ashley Thayer, Heather Thayer, step mother Vivian Beebe, sister Gladys Pelton, brother Everett Beebe, step brother Jim Tucker, niece Michelle Pelton, and nephew Michael Hall. The family would like to give special thanks to Pastor Paul Grabstanowicz, of Chapel in the Pines Fellowship Church, for all the prayers and kindness, Patsy C. and Dalton Thayer of Tennessee for calling and all the inspirational quotes and Bible verses they sent, it meant so much to her, and Heartland Hospice for the support and care our mother received during her final weeks. A memorial dinner to celebrate her life will be held on September 17, 2016 at the Goodar Township Hall, 4471 E County Line Rd South Branch, MI 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. With dinner being served at 2:00 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date and a memorial stone will be placed in Esmond Evergreen Cemetery in Hale, MI beside her mother and grandmother, with Pastor Paul Grabstanowicz, Chapel in the Pines Fellowship Church, officiating.
