Obituary of Phillip Joseph Hanafin
HANAFIN, PHILLIP (PHIL) JOSEPH
08/12/1966 – 09/24/2016
Phillip Hanafin passed away early Saturday morning, September 24, 2016, at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. Phil was born on August 12, 1966, in Bay City, Michigan. He attended Garber High School in Essexville and went on to Delta College where he received his degree in auto mechanics. He was employed at Thelen Honda for more than 20 years. Phil liked snowmobiling, motocross racing, boating and working on cars. He will be greatly missed by his father, Dennis Hanafin; his mother, Frances Klida; his brother, Matthew Hanafin, and his beloved nephew Matthew Hanafin II; step-niece, Emily Martel; and step-nephew Ryan Woods. Phil is also survived by his favorite uncle, Patrick Hanafin; aunts, Frances Rochow; Patricia (Paul) Peoples; Jeannette (Ken) Lozen; and many cousins. He also leaves behind his beloved African Grey pet parrot, Lola, who was his ever present companion. Phil was preceded in death by his grandparents, Francis (Frank) and Eileen Hanafin; grandparents, John and Margaret Leppek; aunts and uncles, Joyce and Robert Harris; Mary Grace and Richard Pero; Frank Rochow; Michael Hanafin; and Peter Hanafin. A memorial service will take place at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday October 8, 2016 at the Walsh Funeral Home, 143 Lake Street, Roscommon, Michigan, 989-275-3600.
