Obituary of Wayne G Johnson

Johnson, Wayne Gordon Prescott, MI (formerly of Corunna, MI) Wayne Gordon Johnson, age 83, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 surrounded by family at his home. Wayne was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on November 27, 1933. He married Dorothy (Dottie) Jane Bauman on March 17, 1956. They settled on Louise Street in Corunna, Michigan. A home that welcomed their four children, Debbie, Sandi, Ron and Bob. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie, and his daughter Debra Walworth. He is survived by his children, Sandi (Ray) Herrington, Ron (Pattie) Johnson, and Bob (Jenifer) Johnson, as well as 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter (Jessa). Wayne served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 and served as a Private First Class. After the Army, Wayne started working as a mechanic and worked for several shops and served thousands of people. Following that, he worked on the Grand Trunk Railroad for over 25 years as a brakeman and maintained his work as a mechanic. He was an avid reader, lay historian, and Jeopardy! aficionado. He had a life-long love of music and fishing. He loved helping his children and grandchildren on home and car repairs, teaching them work ethic and values that will span future generations. He was a member of Skidway Lake American Legion as well as the Skidway Lake Moose Club. Wayne had a great sense of humor that can best be characterized with a story from his nephew, Dave Wenzlick: "In college, Grandpa helped me move out of the dorms one year. Little did I know, that would turn into an all day adventure. I wouldn't be surprised if we stopped at every bar between Mt. Pleasant and Corunna. Grandpa liked to brag that I learned more that day than I did in four years of college. I simply replied, 'Yeah, but nothing I needed to know.' That made him crack up." He was dearly loved by his family and many friends, he will be truly missed.
