James Woods

Obituary of James J. Woods

Woods, James J. Midland, Michigan James Joseph Woods was born September 19th, 1946 in Midland, Michigan to Ervin and Kathleen Woods. He grew up in Midland. Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War and served his country honorably. Upon leaving the Marines, he was employed by Dow Corning and retired after over 30 years with the company. Jim, more commonly known as "Woody or JJ", was an avid hunter, fisherman and carpenter. He was most happy in the woods of northern Michigan sharing this with friends and family. His love of the outdoors was endless. Woody is most known for his generous heart – this generosity was immediate, unstoppable and somehow intuitive. Anyone who knows him has benefitted from his physical strength, handyman skills and his joy in helping others. Jim passed away in his home after a well fought battle with cancer. Mr. Woods is survived by his wife, Donna Woods (Croy), his children Jennifer Woods, Jill Woods, Christine Woods (and Mary Simeone), Jeff (and Sandy) Woods, Carrie (and Todd) DeVee, Leanne Bishop, and Paula (and Derek) Haddad, his 16 grandchildren, his siblings Rose (and Pat) Casey, Chris Loose (and Rob Randall), sister in-law Lyle Woods, numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, John Woods, Michael and Mary Kay Woods and his son Tim Woods. A memorial service will be held on Monday April 10, 2017 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Midland with visitation at 10 am and service at 11 am with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Woody's name to Operation Comfort Warriors through the American Legion or MidMichigan Homecare (hospice).
